Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed keeper Bernd Leno will make his debut against Vorskla Poltava on Thursday. Leno joined the Gunners in a £22.5million move from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window but has found himself behind Petr Cech in the pecking order.
“He is in the starting line-up after we have spoken with Javi Garcia, the goalkeeping coach,” Emery told reporters. “We need to give him a chance and game minutes.
“We signed him for now to improve with us and to compete with another goalkeeper. I am very happy with his every work-day and I am looking forward to him playing well.”
Emery is expected to make a number of changes to his side for the visit of the Ukrainian outfit and fellow summer arrivals Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner are pushing for starts, as are Mohamed Elneny and Danny Welbeck.
Emery is without injury victims Laurent Koscielny, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Carl Jenkinson.
