Trainer Aidan O’Brien is considering running Japan at the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes in September. The colt has enjoyed a great run of form recently, including a win at the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot. His crowning glory though was on Wednesday at York’s Ebor Festival as he held off the challenge of Crystal Ocean – the top-rated racehorse in the world – at the Juddmonte International Stakes.
Now, he is being considered for the event in Ireland, and O’Brien is confident that despite the tenacity of the performance, the three-year-old still has enough in the tank for next month. O’Brien said: “He came out of it very well. He hasn’t done much, but seems to be in good form. We’re happy with him. “Obviously the Irish Champion is there for us to look at with all the horses and we’ll see how they are after a week or 10 days, discuss it with the boys and see what they want to do.”11 BUSINESS NUGGETS FROM SUPER EAGLES BRONZE MEDAL TRIUMPH.
