Li Three Clear In Turkey

China’s Li Haotong will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Turkish Airlines Open after a superb eight-under-par 63. The 23-year-old trailed England’s Justin Rose by three shots at the halfway stage but six birdies and one eagle in an error-free round saw him shoot to the top of the leaderboard on -17 ahead of the final 18 holes.

Rose is still well in contention but carded four bogeys to go with six birdies on Saturday to sign for a 69. He is level on 14-under with Frenchman Alexander Levy.

Rose’s Ryder Cup team-mate Thorbjorn Olesen is a further shot back after adding a 68 to rounds of 65 and 67, while a resurgent Danny Willett joined fellow Englishman Sam Horsfield on -12 after a 69.

It seems likely that the winner will come from one of those stars but Tommy Fleetwood has an outside chance after the Ryder Cup ace shot a 68 to join South Africa’s Thomas Aiken on 11-under after 54 holes.

However, it will be Li they are all chasing on Sunday and the world number 50 was buzzing after his round when talking about holing his approach from the rough at the 10th for an eagle two.

“That was quite a special moment for myself,” he said. “The second shot was like 173 something and 8-iron, tried to hit a high fade, which I did, but little bit flyer high and finished pin-high, which is a little long, and lucky from the top and rolls in.”
