Liverpool have reportedly joined rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. United are expected to overhaul their squad this summer and Koulibaly is understood to be a top target. But reports from Italy suggest they will face serious competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for his signature.
The Reds had a pretty solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip in the heart of defence for the majority of last season and Jurgen Klopp isn’t currently short of options. Joe Gomez is set to be fully fit for the new campaign although the future of 2018 World Cup finalist Dejan Lovren looks uncertain after being linked with Inter Milan.
It’s claimed that United are preparing a bid of £84million to test Napoli’s resolve but that falls way short of their £107million valuation. United risk missing out on the highly-rated Senegalese, with Liverpool understood to have met with the player’s agent.
