Liverpool keeper In Injury Setback

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher will be out of action for up to six weeks after having surgery on a broken wrist. The Reds, who welcomed the first batch of first-team players back for pre-season training on Saturday, announced the keeper will not be fit until next month after undergoing a minor operation on his wrist.

Liverpool say “Kelleher is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department, but is likely to be out of action until August”. It means will be forced to sit out some of the pre-season work and upcoming friendlies against Tranmere Rovers, Bradford City, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla over the summer.

Kelleher, 20, was seen as third-choice keeper last season behind undisputed number one Alisson Becker and back-up Simon Mignolet, and will be hoping to progress further in the 2019-20 campaign. Meanwhile, 16 players reported back for pre-season after a month off following the Champions League success, with Rhian Brewster, Nathaniel Clyne, Fabinho, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and new signing Sepp Van den Berg all among them.
