Javi Lopez says Espanyol need to remain united if they are to maintain their strong start to the season. Los Periquitos have struggled in recent years, often flirting with relegation, but seem to have a fresh outlook this season under new boss Rubi.
A draw at Celta Vigo and a win over Valencia set their season out nicely and optimism remains high, despite losing at Alaves immediately before the international break.
Their positive start seems to have re-engaged the fans, something captain Lopez believes can be vital to building momentum.
While they will always be the second biggest club in Barcelona, the 32-year-old feels that getting everybody reading off the same page can help Rubi’s side become more of a feature in the top half of La Liga.
He told Marca: “In the end it is part of the work of the club and the coaching staff. It is important to grow that they are all excited about our game.
“When she is excited and the players respond, the team is already unstoppable. If we all go in the same direction we can be.”
