Filipe Luis has contradicted his earlier words by admitting he did ask to leave Atletico Madrid over the summer. The 33-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos for a second stint in 2015 following a disastrous one-year spell with Chelsea and has made more than 300 La Liga appearances from his two periods with the capital club.
However, it seemed his days might be numbered in the off-season, with reports that French champions Paris Saint-Germain were keen to secure his signature.
Earlier this week, the Brazil international stated that he “did not push” for an exit, but he has now told Globoesporte: “There was interest from PSG so I informed Atletico and requested that I be allowed to leave.
“I thought it could be a similar deal to the way in which Gabi left the club this summer as he only had one year left on his contract, too, but the club did not see it this way.”
