Lukebakio Bemoans Hornets Move Choice

Dodi Lukebakio has admitted that he made a “bad choice” by opting to join Watford from Belgian club Anderlecht in January 2018. The 21-year-old Belgium Under-21 international winger penned a four-and-a-half year deal at Vicarage Road when he joined just over 12 months ago.

However, despite being one of the first new faces in the door after Javi Gracia replaced Marco Silva as boss, he was restricted to just 15 minutes of first-team action in the second half of last term when he stepped off the bench in the 2-0 away defeat at West Ham on February 10.

Lukebakio was allowed to join Fortuna Dusseldorf on a season-long loan deal before the start of the current campaign but, despite enjoying his spell there with 11 goals and three assists, the German Bundesliga side recently dismissed the possibility of making the deal permanent.

As a result, he is likely to return to Watford in the summer and could then be given a chance to prove his worth in England, but Lukebakio has accepted that he should not have joined the club during the winter transfer window.

He told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad: “Watford bought me as a long-term investment, but I did not realise that. It was a bad choice, since that transfer took place in the winter. That’s not a good time for a transfer.”
