Lyon Suffers Injury Scare Ahead Of Fourth Test

Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon has picked up an ankle injury but he is not believed to be a doubt for the fourth Ashes Test against England. The 31-year-old was at the centre of Australia’s dramatic defeat in last weekend’s third Test at Headingley, as he fluffed his lines when he had an opportunity to run Jack Leach out and win the match for the tourists.

An Australia victory would have also guaranteed they retained the Ashes, but they can still achieve that feat if they win one of the remaining two Tests. They should be able to call upon Lyon for next week’s fourth Test at Old Trafford, despite the fact he picked up an ankle injury during a game of “touch football” ahead of Thursday’s warm-up match against Derbyshire. “Nathan Lyon just limped off training track at Derby after turning his ankle during touch football game,” Andrew Ramsey, a senior writer for Cricket Australia confirmed.

“Update is Lyon has slightly twisted ankle and will sit out remainder of football game as precaution. Not in doubt for Old Trafford (cricket ground).” Lyon is likely to play a crucial role for Australia during the final two Tests, as he has taken 14 wickets in the series to date, with team-mate Pat Cummings (17) the only man to have taken more.
