Newcastle are still in the hunt to sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico and could make another attempt to sign him in January. Boss Rafa Benitez, who has less than 12 months on his contract, was left frustrated in his efforts to sign a left-back this summer and only has Paul Dummett as a recognised option.
Newcastle are believed to have held an interest in Argentina international Tagliafico for the past 18 months and the Magpies are claimed to have failed with an offer for the defender during the summer.
However, Benitez’s interest has not ended there and he hopes to have more luck in the new year.
It is now thought the Magpies will move back in for the 25-year-old, who only joined Ajax in January this year from Independiente for a fee believed to be in the region of £4million.
Tagliafico is rumoured to be keen on securing a move to England’s top flight in the next transfer window and Newcastle are ready to make his wish come true, with a bid close to £8m expected to be enough to force through a deal.
