New Zealand Rugby League support Kiwis head coach Michael Maguire after his appointment with Wests Tigers. The Sydney-based outfit confirmed Maguire as their new head coach “for at least the next three seasons” on Sunday.
Maguire has previously led South Sydney Rabbithos and Wigan Warriors to glory domestically and he will look to emulate those results with Wests Tigers.
He will continue in his role as New Zealand head coach, linking up with Wests Tigers after the Test series with England, and NZRL CEO Greg Peters insists they fully support his decision.
Peters said: “We were aware when we appointed Michael that this was the likely outcome.
“He made it clear to us from the outset that he wanted to coach in the NRL again as well as coach the Kiwis. He wants to develop a winning culture that takes us to the World Cup.
“We congratulate Madge on his appointment. He knows we have confidence in him being able to continue his vital role with the Kiwis in the current series against England and in the years to come.”
