Marko Has Confidence In Honda Despite Setback

Red Bull boss Helmut Marko is confident their new Honda engine will be competitive despite rumoured problems with the development.

Red Bull made the decision to switch from Renault to Honda for the 2019 campaign after junior team Toro Rosso spent last season testing the new power unit.

However, reports claim Honda are already under pressure to deliver the goods after a split with their leading simulation partners, AVL.

According to AutoBild, the manufacturer’s partnership with AVL has been terminated after a disagreement between the two parties.

‘Engine guru’ Mario Illien has been brought in to smooth the waters and Marko is confident that everything will be in place to give his drivers every opportunity of success. “For this issue, appropriate measures have been initiated,” he said.

“Honda has already overtaken Renault and will be even better in 2019. “Then Max [Verstappen] has everything together to make it. He is improving all the time, there seems to be no limit for him.”
