Marko Desperate To Provide Verstappen With Title

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says the team are very keen to give Max Verstappen a title-winning car in 2020. Verstappen has enjoyed a good season with Red Bull in his fifth year in Formula 1, with the young Dutchman currently sat in fourth in the Drivers’ standings, sandwiched in between Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel.

He has won two races in 2019, claiming the chequered flag at the Austrian and German Grands Prix, while securing an additional four podium placings. The 22-year-old would break Vettel’s record of being the youngest-ever F1 champion if he were to win the title by 2020, and Marko says it is an ambition the team want to realise, with next year also representing the final year of his contract with the team.

“It’s the last year we can make Max the youngest champion in F1,” Marko told Motorsport.com. “We have to get it together for next year. We know that. It’s in our DNA to win. “In terms of the chassis, I think we’ll be much better prepared than we were this season. And based on the progress Honda are making, we believe we can consistently be on Mercedes’ and Ferrari’s level next year in terms of power.”
