Liverpool defender Joel Matip has fallen down the pecking order this season but he has vowed to stay and fight for his spot.
Jurgen Klopp has preferred the pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the heart of defence this term, while World Cup finalist Dejan Lovren appears to be his third choice.
That has left Matip out in the cold and with just 92 minutes of Premier League football under his belt in 2018-19.
Reports recently emerged suggesting that the Cameroon international may look to force through an exit to get his career back on track, although Matip insists he is willing to stay and fight.
Matip told the Evening Standard: “I only concentrate now on the season on Liverpool and there’s nothing else in my mind. Everything else would only distract me.
“I’ve got to wait for my opportunity, I have to work hard – this is the life of a player. “I try to be in the best form I can be and to be ready if I had to be.”
