McAliister Talks Up Kent For Rangers Return

Assistant boss Gary McAllister says Rangers are confident they are “first in line” to re-sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent this summer. Kent impressed on a season-long loan deal at Ibrox last term, scoring six goals and weighing in with six assists under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s guidance.

Gerrard has made it clear he wants Kent back at the club for the 2019-20 campaign, while the winger has himself suggested he would be open to a return as he seeks regular first-team football again. Kent is expected to meet with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp this summer to see if he has any chance of forcing his way into the German’s plans at Anfield and, if not, is expected to depart on loan again – or even permanently – before August.

And now McAllister, a former Liverpool midfielder as well, thinks Rangers are well placed to sort out a fresh deal for Kent. McAllister said: “It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line. Is he worth the wait? I would say so. He has got a rapport with the fans and there is no doubt he enjoyed his time here.

“That’s on the pitch, in and around the training ground and the city as well – he enjoyed Glasgow. We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know. “If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line.”
