Rory McIlroy will not take part in the first FedEx play-off series event, the Northern Trust Open, next week. McIlroy had earlier suggested that he would not make himself available for the tournament following the conclusion of the PGA Championship last weekend, in which the Northern Irishman had a disappointing tournament, finishing in a tie for 50th at the Bellerive.
And after the official list of competitors was announced for the tournament held at the Ridgewood Country Club, McIlroy’s name was notably absent.
“I need to assess where I’m at, and I think the best thing for me to do right now is take a couple of days off and reflect on what I need to do going forward,” McIlroy previously said after his efforts at Bellerive.
“The best thing might be to take that first FedEx Cup week off and work on my game and hopefully come back in a better place.
“I’ll do some practice this week and see if I feel ready to go there and play five out of six weeks leading up to the Ryder Cup.”
