McNamara Angered By Defeat

Catalans coach Steve McNamara openly questioned the attitude of his players after seeing them slump to a 50-10 defeat to Hull FC.

The hosts took the lead in Perpignan on Saturday when Sam Tomkins converted his own score but were second best after that, as the Airlie Birds ran in eight tries, with Marc Sneyd adding 18 more points from the kicking tee.

Hull sit third in the table, four points clear of the Catalans who succumbed to a fourth straight defeat in all competitions and McNamara says it is imperative that they get back to what has worked for them over the last 18 months.

“I’m really angry,” he said. “I thought we got off to a fantastic start, I thought we showed some real intent at the start but as soon as things went against us, we stopped.

“It’s more than disappointing to see that and it’s not good enough for our club. “I can’t explain that right now. I thought we looked a really good team early on. I thought we looked connected in attack and defence.

“There were blokes walking though for tries. Walking through tackles. There was a spell last season when we were fighting for our lives to stay in Super League and fighting to win a Challenge Cup and we invested in every single area. I think as a group we need to get back to that.”
