Mendy To Miss Blues Clash

Benjamin Mendy and Vincent Kompany will be absent when Manchester City take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday. Mendy has made his comeback from November’s knee surgery, playing in the recent Carabao Cup semi-final rout of Burton Albion but, according to boss Pep Guardiola, he needs more time before returning to top-flight action. “Mendy is injured and it’s not easy. Meniscus. It is not easy. He needs to re-adapt,” he told reporters. “You can’t return and train for two days and you are fit. You have to be careful.”

Kompany has not played since picking up a muscle injury in the 2-1 win over Liverpool on January 3 and there has been no date put on his return.
Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling should both be back in the starting XI after being named as substitutes in Wednesday’s win at Everton as the table-toppers hope to match Liverpool’s result over the weekend.
The Reds face Bournemouth on Saturday and could knock the Citizens down into second spot if they win.
