Phil Mickelson admits he does not deserve a wild card place at the upcoming Presidents’ Cup due to his poor form. The 49-year-old has made 24 consecutive appearances at the Ryder Cup and Presidents’ Cup since 1993, with 20 of those being via automatic selection.
However, since winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, he has only recorded one top-20 finish – a tie for 18th in the Masters – and has dropped down to number 47 in the world rankings. He has not been outside the world’s top 50 since November 1993 after finishing runner-up in the Casio World Open.

Now, ‘Lefty’ has hinted to captain Tiger Woods that there are more in-form options for the Melbourne tournament in December. “No, no, no. I have not played well in the last seven, eight months,” he said when asked about playing in the Presidents’ Cup.
“There are much better options of players that have played consistently at a high level that deserve to be on the team and I have not… even if I were to win (this week), I have not done enough to warrant a pick. “I’m not asking for one, I don’t expect one. I think there’s a lot better options for the US side.”
