Midfielder Delighted To Back At Newcastle

Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback says he is delighted to be back at the club and hopes to compete for regular football. The midfielder looked likely to leave the north-east club permanently this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by former boss Rafael Benitez.

But new manager Stave Bruce has brought Colback, who spent last season on-loan with Nottingham Forest, back in from the wilderness. Colback started both of Newcastle’s Premier League Asia Trophy games in China and could be in contention for their season-opener against Arsenal on August 11.

The 29-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract at St James’ Park and insists he will make the most of his second chance. Colback said: “It’s a bit unexpected, but that’s football sometimes. Obviously, I knew I had a year left, but I wasn’t expecting to come back and be involved.

Things can change. All I’ve got to do is apply myself and work hard for the team when selected. “If I’ve got a realistic chance to play, then of course (I want to stay). I loved my time here when I was playing. It’s a great place to play, St James’s. “I always gave 100% for the shirt. I’ll continue to do that, if selected.”
