Midlands interest growing in McCarthy

Everton midfielder James McCarthy has been attracting further interest with Championship duo Aston Villa and West Brom being linked. Reports have suggested Bournemouth could be one of the frontrunners to sign the Republic of Ireland international, who has only recently returned from a double leg fracture.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe could look to make his third signing of the January transfer window by sealing a deal for McCarthy, having already brought in Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne.

However, there also appears to be a battle rising in the Midlands to sign McCarthy, who only has 18 months remaining on his current deal at Goodison Park.
Both Villa and the Baggies are looking to bolster their midfield options this month as the pair push for returns to the Premier League.
It’s not yet certain where McCarthy features in manager Marco Silva’s plans, especially since he has only just come back into the first-team fold after a horrendous injury.
