Milan Handed One-Year European Ban

AC Milan have agreed a deal with UEFA to accept a one-year ban from European football after breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The San Siro outfit appealed a two-year ban handed over by UEFA last summer after they were found guilty of overspending between 2015 and 2017.

They were allowed to take part in the Europa League last term after appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport but will now have to concede their spot. Milan did earn an automatic spot in the group stage of the Europa League for 2019-20 after finishing fifth in Serie A last term.

However, Roma will take that berth, having finished sixth, while Torino have been handed a place in the qualifying rounds. Cas said in a statement: “AC Milan is excluded from participating in the UEFA Club Competitions of the sporting season 2019/2020 as a consequence of the breach of its FFP break-even obligations during the 2015/2016/2017 and the 2016/2017/2018 monitoring periods.

“The Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body is invited to issue a Procedural Order, acknowledging the outcome of the present arbitration(s) and terminating the AC-01/2019 proceedings relating to the 2016/2017/2018 monitoring period, which have become moot.”
