Moeen Hails Morgan Captaincy

England spinner Moeen Ali says Eoin Morgan’s captaincy is absolutely crucial to the team. Morgan was handed the ODI and T20 captaincy for the 2015 World Cup and he has been integral to England’s impressive rise in limited-overs cricket since, with the country ranked number one in the 50-over format.

England clinched the One Day series with Sri Lanka on Saturday after winning the fourth match – taking an unassailable 3-0 lead – and the final ODI takes place in Colombo on Tuesday.

Moeen, who has impressed alongside fellow spinner Adil Rashid in the bowling department, has hailed Morgan’s captaincy and says the skipper is one of the best batsmen around.

“Even if he wasn’t scoring runs, I think his captaincy and his demeanour in the field is very important for us,” he told Talksport. “Being one of the older players in the side, the experience he has and just the calmness he shows will get him in the side.

“And when he’s playing like this, I think he’s right up there with the best players in the world.”
