Morgan Hails England Attack

Eoin Morgan hailed the performance of his bowlers as England defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in Pallekele. In a match that was reduced to 21 overs due to a six-hour rain delay, Sri Lanka were looking good at 57-0, before the England attack, led by Adil Rashid took control.

Rashid took 4-36, while Tom Curran also shone with 3-17, and Morgan has praised his attack for putting his side into a winning position, that they duly took to open up a 2-0 lead in the series with two to play.

“I can’t praise the bowlers enough for the work they’ve done,” the England skipper said. “To restrict them to 150 on a surface like this, which was so good to bat on, and what seemed like a very fast outfield, was a fantastic job.

“There’s a lot of disappointed guys in that changing room that haven’t played today. Competition for places is really high, which creates a really healthy atmosphere.”

Rashid, who was named man of the match added: “It came out nicely – it felt good. I’ve got a simple gameplan to mix it up. The ball got a bit wet towards the end of the innings, but you’ve got to find a way.”
