Tamim -Mosque attack not easily forgotten

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal feels memories of Friday’s shooting in a New Zealand mosque will live long in the memory. The Bangladesh team was just 50 yards away when a gunman opened fire, killing 49 people and wounding many others.

Had the Tigers been there just a few minutes earlier, the outcome for the players could have been very different, and the third Test with the Black Caps was understandably cancelled. The Asians are now returning home from the tour and Tamim admits the players are unlikely to be able to forget the atrocity any time soon.

“It will certainly take some time for us to get out of it (the state of shock) after the experience we had here,” he told reporters at Christchurch airport. It is the second narrow escape for an Asian cricket team after the Sri Lankan tour bus was attacked by gunmen in 2009 en route to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Six police officers and two civilians died in that incident, while six Sri Lanka cricketers and two staff were wounded.
