Mourinho Watching Spurs Situation – Report

Jose Mourinho is eager to return to management in the right role and is reportedly keeping an eye on the situation at Tottenham. The Portuguese tactician has not been seen in a dugout since being sacked by Manchester United in December last year and has been working as a pundit to keep his hand in.

The 56-year-old has made no secret of his desire to slip the tracksuit back on and has turned down the advances of Benfica and Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande as he wants a job that is “the same size and the same level that I am as a manager”.

It would seem that Spurs fits the bill and the position may become vacant if Mauricio Pochettino fails to halt the club’s current slide.

The north Londoners are currently ninth in the Premier League standings having won just two of their past five games, while a 7-2 Champions League thrashing by Bayern Munich heaped further pressure on the Argentine.

It remains to be seen if the Tottenham board jettison the former Southampton chief and there would certainly be no shortage of candidates for the post.

The Daily Mail claims Mourinho is open to the prospect of managing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but would he be the right fit for Spurs?

There is no doubting his record, with league titles won at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto while he also claimed the Champions League at the latter two clubs.

However, his stock seemed to weaken after a tempestuous stint at Old Trafford that saw him fall out with a few players and make many press conferences more about himself than the team.

It is open to debate as to whether Daniel Levy would want the baggage that comes with hiring Mourinho while his style of football is not exactly in keeping with the ‘Spurs way’.

Pochettino may turn things around and there might not be a decision on Mourinho to be made but it is looking more and more likely that a change will be necessary to get the club back on track.
