Mullins Deciding Benie Des Dieux Plan

Willie Mullins is weighing up Benie Des Dieux’s options before she defends her OLBG Mares’ Hurdle crown at Cheltenham in March.

The Rich Ricci-owned horse, who is unbeaten in five starts for the champion trainer, has yet to run this season with Mullins waiting for the right conditions for the eight-year-old.

Defending her OLGB Mares’ Hurdle title at the Cheltenham Festival is the eventual target but Mullins says she has options before that – if the ground suits.

“She’s in good form and we’re aiming for the Mares’ Hurdle,” he said. “The only reason she hasn’t run this season is the ground. “She has options before that. There’s the Quevega Hurdle at Punchestown, the Red Mills Hurdle and the Boyne Hurdle at Navan.

There are options in England too. “The problem is the ground. But it’s not a big worry if she went into Cheltenham without a run.”
