Murray Handed Chance Of Queen’s Return

Andy Murray may compete at Queen’s Club after the tournament’s organisers held a wild card for the former world number one.

The three-time Grand Slam champion has been absent since undergoing a hip resurfacing operation shortly after his defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut at the Australian Open in January.

Murray suggested prior to the Australian Open that he may be forced to retire after the Grand Slam in Melbourne, and tournament organisers Down Under showed a video after his loss to Bautista Agut, with a number of tennis stars expressing their sadness at his apparent imminent retirement.

However, that montage seems to have been premature as members of the Murray camp have revealed the Scot is “cautiously optimistic” he will be able to play again and a return at Wimbledon has been mooted after he described himself as “pain free” last month.

Murray might have a chance to warm up for an SW19 appearance at Queen’s Club as organisers have held a wild card for him. The 31-year-old is a five-time champion at Queen’s, a tournament record, and if able to take part, he will join fellow Britons Kyle Edmund and Cameron Norrie in the draw.
