Murray Has Second Hip Surgery

Three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray has undergone hip surgery in a bid to prolong his career.

The 31-year-old made an emotional announcement at the recent Australian Open that previous surgery had failed to solve the issue and he would retire after Wimbledon.

He even suggested that the Aussie showpiece may well be his final tournament before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round.

The former world number one said after the defeat that he might undergo another operation to see if it could help but gave no guarantees that it would enable him to get back on the court.

Murray has now had the procedure and, posting an X-ray of his hip on Instagram, wrote: “I have a metal hip. Feeling a bit battered and bruised but hopefully that will be the end of my hip pain.”

The Scot has played 15 matches since he returned to action last summer but looked a shadow of the man who has been a member of the ‘big four’ for the best part of a decade.

No timescale has been given for his return should rehabilitation go well, but there is no doubt that the two-time champion will want to make an appearance at SW19.
