Nagelsmann Backing Werner To Help Take Bayern’s Scalp

RB Leipzig coach Julien Nagelsmann believes Timo Werner’s “individual quality” can help his side achieve their target of defeating Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Leipzig are the only team in the Bundesliga still boasting a 100 per cent record after three matches, but that will be put to the test at the weekend when they host the reigning champions at the Red Bull Arena.

Niko Kovac’s side arrives sitting in second spot on seven points having been held in their opening match against Hertha Berlin last month.

Bayern had been linked with a swoop for Germany international striker, Werner, in the summer and Nagelsmann has identified him as the man to shoot down the Bavarians.

The 23-year-old has already scored five goals in three matches, including a hat-trick against Borussia Monchengladbach before the international break.

And Nagelsmann said: “Individual quality can always be crucial, so it could be key for us if we have a Timo Werner in top form. “He was very good in training [on Wednesday] and he will be a very important factor. He is able to really hurt Bayern.”

When asked about his target for the Bayern game, he added: “We can talk about [a draw] in retrospect. I would like to win and go into the game with that approach.

“Good results against Bayern can take you a long way, but you have to keep performing every week,” he said. “If we win against Bayern and then lose every other game, it counts for nothing.”
