New Boruc Deal Pushes Begovic Closer To Exit

Asmir Begovic’s chances of leaving Bournemouth this summer have increased dramatically after Artur Boruc penned a new one-year deal. The club announced on Monday that ex-Poland international Boruc would be spending a sixth season at the Vitality Stadium after agreeing an extension.

The 39-year-old featured regularly for Eddie Howe’s men last season, replacing Begovic as the manager’s first-choice for a nine-game spell after he was axed for some below-par displays. Howe then rotated Begovic, Boruc and young shot-stopper Mark Travers as the campaign drew to a close with talk behind the scenes suggesting he and Begovic had been involved in a training ground bust-up.

Howe has since denied those claims but it does look likely that Begovic will be allowed to move on this summer after failing to live up to the £11.5million price tag they paid for the Bosnia-Herzegovina international in 2017. Bournemouth are actively searching for a new number one goalkeeper with Stoke’s Jack Butland understood to be a target and Begovic could be involved in any deal for the England international having previously spent time at the bet365 Stadium.
