Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey and Yoshinori Muto face fitness tests ahead of the trip to Burnley and Paul Dummett is out. Dummett sustained a calf problem playing for Wales during the international break and the left-back will miss Monday’s trip to Turf Moor as a result.
Defender Lascelles has a should problem, while midfielder Shelvey and forward Muto both have calf injuries and all three will be assessed prior to the clash with relegation rivals Burnley.
Newcastle and the Clarets go into the game level on nine points, one clear of the bottom three, but the Magpies have found a bit of form having picked up seven points from the last nine available.
Manager Rafael Benitez expects a stern test at Turf Moor however, as he believes Burnley are just as strong as they were last term when they achieved a seventh placed finish in the Premier League. “Burnley are physically stronger and I think it will be a very different test,” he said.
“I’m sure it will be because of the way they played against us last season, and I think it will be similar to this one.”
