Out-of-favour Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has emerged as a transfer target for Nice. The Belgium international has had to settle for being back-up keeper at Anfield this season following the big-money arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma in the summer.
Mignolet has made just one appearance – in the EFL Cup defeat to Chelsea – and it appears he has little chance of ever regaining the first-choice role under Jurgen Klopp.
The 30-year-old has admitted he is frustrated with a lack of game-time but has been praised by Reds boss Klopp for his professionalism.
However, he could ask for a move away in January and Nice coach Patrick Vieira is interested. The Arsenal legend is reportedly unhappy with his goalkeeping options and is ready to make an offer for Mignolet when the transfer window opens.
Argentinian Walter Benitez has been Vieira’s first-choice keeper this season but Mignolet, who has played 203 games for Liverpool and is under contract until 2021, would be viewed as an upgrade.
Liverpool also have Loris Karius out on loan at Besiktas but are unlikely to recall him, so for Nice to have any chance of landing Mignolet, Klopp would first have to bring in another back-up keeper in January.
