Nishikori Makes Semis On Home Soil

Kei Nishikori will face Richard Gasquet in the Japan Open semi-finals after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last eight. Second seed Nishikori, who is aiming to win the tournament on home soil for a third time, overcame the Greek Tsitsipas 6-3 6-3 to the delight of the local fans in Tokyo.

Nishikori followed up his last-16 win over Benoit Paire with a straight-sets triumph and will now prepare to take on eighth seed Gasquet on Saturday after he beat Kevin Anderson in their quarter-final, 7-6 7-6.

Nishikori, who made the semi-finals of the US Open last month, has won the Tokyo event in 2012 and 2014 and will hope to edge out Gasquet and book a place in the final.

The other semi sees Denis Shapovalov take on Daniil Medvedev after teenager Shapovalov beat Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6 7-6 6-4 before Medvedev impressed with a 7-6 6-3 win over sixth seed Milos Raonic.
