No Pressure On Poulter

Ian Poulter says he is happy to play without pressure as he chases down Dustin Johnson at the RBC Heritage. The Englishman sits a shot adrift of Johnson in a three-way tie for second alongside Rory Sabbatini and Shane Lowry and looked sharp on Saturday as he recorded a second straight 67.

A fourth career PGA Tour victory would further boost his confidence after finishing in a share of 12th last week at The Masters. Poulter’s game is clearly shaping up well but rather than expect to challenge on Sunday at Hilton Head, the 43-year-old says he is happy to tee off with little expectation and instead allow his game to do the talking.

“I don’t put any pressure on myself anymore,” Poulter said. “It’s not about the win, it’s about being in contention, which I’ve done that a lot this year. “I feel great about my game and I’m just going to go have some fun.” He added:

“I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing. I’m in position again. I’m in contention, which is what I like to be on a Sunday. As often as I’ve done that this year, I haven’t quite finished one off. “It would be nice to go out tomorrow and be aggressive where I can, and obviously see if I can go close.”
