Nuno Hails Ruddy Attitude

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says number two goalkeeper John Ruddy deserves plenty of praise for his attitude this season.

Ruddy, 32, moved to Molineux in the summer of 2017 and played a key role in helping the club win promotion from the Championship.

However, the summer arrival of Rui Patricio has forced him to watch from the bench on their return to the Premier League and he has openly admitted to being frustrated by the situation.

Ruddy has remained professional, though, and impressed during a rare start on Monday as Wolves beat Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup.

Nuno himself was a goalkeeper and knows what it is like to be second choice, having been on the bench for Porto’s 2004 Champions League success.

Knowing exactly what it feels like, the boss says he would accept if the one-cap England international lost focus but insists that has been far from the case.

“It’s very tough to be in the situation that John is,” said Nuno. “To be there, every day, in the high standards – the way he is in training – is amazing.”
