Ormsby Holds Victoria Advantage

Wade Ormsby will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the ISPS Handa Vic Open in Victoria. The Australian recovered from a double bogey at the par-five second to record a two-under-par round of 70 that moved him clear at the top of the leaderboard on 15-under.

Indeed, the 38-year-old did not drop another shot following his early setback, a feat made even more impressive as strong winds and rain made playing conditions at 13th Beach Golf Links particularly testing.

Ormsby was certainly delighted with the battling spirit he showed during his third round and is hopeful of his chances of claiming a second European Tour title on Sunday, following on from his previous success at the Hong Kong Open in 2017.

“It was just tough out there,” Ormsby told reporters. I just kept grinding, really, that’s all we can do in weather like that. You’re going to hit a lot of bad shots, need to recover a lot and I did that quite well so I’m happy.

“I feel good. I’m pretty relaxed this week, I’m treating it as a bit of a holiday. I had a tough week last week so I’m trying to enjoy myself a little bit more this week, so I’m doing that so far.”

Ormsby’s fellow Australian Matthew Stieger and England’s Callum Shinkwin sit in second place after they both defied the conditions by posting scores of 65 and 66 to move onto 13-under.

A further 13 players are within five shots of the lead on what promises to be an exciting final day in Victoria.
