Arsenal’s hopes of signing Benjamin Pavard have been boosted as the defender has hinted he will leave Stuttgart at the end of the season.
The France international was heavily linked with a move away from Stuttgart during the summer, particularly after he helped his country win the World Cup, but he ultimately opted to remain at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Arsenal, along with Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham, were heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old, as were Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
However, Pavard has now dismissed talk of a future move to Bayern and has instead indicated that he expects to leave the Bundesliga altogether at the end of the season.
“I did not sign anything at all [with Bayern]. You are the journalists who say that I signed [for Bayern],” Pavard told L’Equipe. “I’m in Stuttgart, I’m fine there. My career plan was to stay one more season in Germany.”
Pavard’s comments are sure to put a number of Premier League clubs on red alert, in particular Arsenal, who may look to renew their interest in the former Lille player as defensive problems have marred their performances so far this season.
The Gunners have conceded eight goals in their opening four matches this term and are still awaiting their first clean sheet of the Unai Emery era.
