Dimitri Payet believes it was the feeling of unfinished business that was the driving force behind his return to Marseille. The France international enjoyed an impressive spell in the Premier League at West Ham but his time at the London Stadium turned sour as he appeared to down tools before a return across the Channel.
Payet has now admitted he regrets some of his actions at the Hammers but claims the lure of returning to Marseille and trying to achieve something great was the key behind the move in 2017.
He told L’Equipe: “I came back because I had this feeling: I had gone to West Ham without having finished my history with OM. “I knew where I would put my feet, that I would not be let go, that we would expect a lot from me. “I did not come back to be quiet, to be easy, otherwise I would have stayed in West Ham.”
