Manchester United are ready to take up their option to extend midfielder Andreas Pereira’s deal by a further year. Old Trafford bosses will sit down shortly with the Belgium-born Brazil Under-20 midfielder, with the academy graduate ready to give his Red Devils’ career one last shot.
Pereira has found himself in the first-team reckoning at the start of this campaign and boss Jose Mourinho has insisted the youngster has a long-term future in Manchester, having enjoyed a successful loan spell at Valencia last season.
The 22-year-old has less than 12 months remaining on his deal at the Theatre of Dreams and was even open to a permanent switch to Los Che.
United insiders, however, state they were always going to take up their option to extend his stay and there could also be a slight pay rise to keep the player motivated.
It is understood interest remains in Spain but United’s backroom staff are convinced Pereira could be a “late bloomer” and follow a similar trajectory to Jesse Lingard, who also had to bide his time during the early part of his career in Manchester.
