Sergio Perez has reportedly won the race with Esteban Ocon to drive for Force India next year and is close to signing a new deal. The Mexican driver will see his current contract expire at the end of this season and it had looked likely he would be searching for a new home after Force India entered administration last month.
However, the Silverstone-based outfit were saved from going out of business by a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll, father of current Williams driver Lance, who will make the move to Force India for the 2019 season.
The decision as to who would partner Stroll for next year now looks to have been made with reports in the Mexican press claiming Perez has got the nod.
The former McLaren driver has more financial backing than current team mate Ocon and that appears to have swung matters in his favour with a contract extension set to be completed before the Formula 1 season resumes in Belgium next weekend.
Meanwhile, Ocon has been linked with a move to McLaren to pair up with Carlos Sainz from next season, the Woking-based team have contacted the Frenchman to sound him out about the switch.
