Pioli Happy To Take Positives As Milan Are Held

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli was happy to take the positives after kicking off his tenure with a 2-2 draw against Lecce on Sunday. The pressure is on Pioli from the off after he was handed the job of getting the Rossoneri up the Serie A table as quickly as possible – and he kicked off with a point.

It could have been better and looked set to be all three points after goals from Hakan Calhanoglu and Krzysztof Piatek either side of a Khouma Babacar leveller, had them leading 2-1 with nine minutes left.

However, Milan made the mistake of sitting back and inviting Lecce to attack, and the visitors took advantage when snatching an equaliser through Marco Calderoni.

Pioli was frustrated by the fact Milan could not hold on for the three points at the San Siro, but preferred to focus on the positives and says they will learn from their mistakes. “We have to work in every area, and what I’m asking of the players is different to the previous coaches,” Pioli told the press.

“Today we played as a team, and created a lot, but we made mistakes in two vital areas which didn’t allow us to close the game out. “The players have come on a lot in the last few [training] sessions, and I’ve tried to work on the simplest possible things.

“We won’t get anywhere if we condemn individuals who make mistakes. Playing football means making mistakes.”
Milan are 12th in the Serie A table, six points before the top four and the Champions League places.
