Pivac Delighted With Scarlets Display

Scarlets boss Wayne Pivac admits he was very pleased with his team’s performance against Ospreys in their 20-17 Pro 14 win. In the first Llanelli derby of the season, it was a tense affair in the first half as Ospreys just got the better of the hosts going into the break with a 12-10 advantage.

However, in the second period it was the Scarlets who came out on top with a Rhys Patchell try and a Leigh Halfpenny penalty and conversion proving enough for them to seal the victory.

Commenting on their 25th straight win at their home ground of Parcy Scarlets, Pivac said he was delighted with the overall display, despite some hiccups on the way.

“We were really happy with the start we made. We defended everything they threw at us in the first 20 minutes, we saw some very good defence in our 22. We had a lot of energy and we got our main opportunity and converted that,” Pivac said.

“We were disappointed with the second twenty of the first half and we spoke about that at half time. There was no excuse for the gaping holes in defence, we let in a couple of tries that should have been avoided.

“From our point of view it was making sure that we started the second half very well, like we did the first, and making sure that we didn’t have that lull. We bought the energy and passion that game deserved.
“We’re happy to get that result and after last week it was a massive step up.”
