Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he was surprised to see Wembley only half full for Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Cardiff on Saturday. A crowd of only 43,268 were at Wembley as Eric Dier’s early goal gave Pochettino’s side the win and moved them up to third in the Premier League table.
The top tier of Wembley was almost entirely empty and the 90,000-capacity stadium was only half full with Spurs fans deciding to stay away.
Cardiff brought 3,000 travelling fans in what was Tottenham’s fourth league game at Wembley so far this season following the delays to their new stadium.
Pochettino admitted his shock at the low turnout but refused to criticise the club’s fans.
“Me? yes. I was little bit surprised it was empty,” he said.
“But I understand that this is so difficult. We cannot ask for more from our fans. Of course it was a difficult day, the weather and everything, it’s not easy.
“But yes, I am always honest and I was a bit surprised at the upper tier being empty.”
