Pochettino Plays Down Pitch Problems

Mauricio Pochettino says he has no concerns regarding the Wembley pitch ahead of their Champions League clash with PSV on Tuesday.

Spurs, who have taken just a point at the halfway stage of Group B, must beat the Dutch Eredivisie leaders to have any realistic chance of getting through to the knockout stages, with games against Inter Milan and Barcelona still to go.

The condition of the playing surface at the national stadium has again dominated the build-up to the game after its shocking state for the clash with Manchester City last Monday, which was played 24 hours after an NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The pitch was inspected by a Wembley official on Monday afternoon and deemed in good enough condition to allow PSV to train on it, as per Champions League rules.

Pochettino now feels the pitch will be at a better standard than it was for the arrival of the Citizens. “I think it’ll improve a little bit – they’re working so hard to improve it,” Pochettino said. “I saw pictures, I think it’s better. The condition will be the same for both sides. Nothing to complain about.”
