Pope Puts Pen To Paper On New Deal

Nick Pope has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Burnley – ending any speculation over a Turf Moor exit this summer. The England international goalkeeper, who made his Three Lions debut against Costa Rica last year, has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until June 2023.

Burnley also have the option to extend that contract for a further year. Pope’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of next season, which had led to speculation he was set to be the one of the three England keepers at Turf Moor to be sold.

Bournemouth and Arsenal were two of the clubs linked with moves for the 27-year-old, but he says he is in the right place to continue his rapid progress. “I am in a good place – the shoulder feels good and I’m looking forward to coming back ready for next season,” said Pope, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Clarets’ Europa League season opener against Aberdeen in July, which sidelined him until December.

“With the contract being for a further four years that will carry me through the majority of my career. When you look at a long deal like that, you take into context the club you’re at and the people you will be around every day. “I love being where I am and working with the lads every day. It’s an enjoyable place to be. I want to get back to where I left off and help the club build on the three years I’ve had here so far.”
