Powell Backs Minikin To Come Good

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell says he wants to see Greg Minikin improve his game and win back his place in the team. The Yorkshireman has lost his place in the Cas starting line-up in recent weeks after some lacklustre performances for the Super League outfit.

Some costly mistakes saw Powell tinker with his team and Minikin was forced to watch the win over Wigan Warriors from the stands. Powell has refused to shut the door on the 24-year-old and he has urged him to bounce back as he tries to improve the right-hand side of his Tigers team.

He told the Pontefract and Castleford Express: “Greg wants to play in the centre and that was his position when he was at York. He did a pretty good job there. “He’s done well for us. He’s played against Kallum Watkins when he was at his best and completely shut him out so he can play there and do a great job.

He’s just got to build his confidence and it’s down to him to prove it because there’s a challenge every week on the rugby league field. “Greg’s getting challenged at the moment and he’s got to find a way to play his best rugby, which I am sure is not too far away.”

Minikin is out of contract this year but Powell has also revealed the club are in discussions over a new deal. He added: “He’s out of contract at the end of this year, but we’re in discussions with him. “We have been for a bit and hopefully that will get sorted out in the not too distant future.”
