Castleford head coach Daryl Powell has praised Saturday’s thumping 36-4 victory at home to Catalans Dragons. Englishman Greg Eden was in impressive form as he grabbed a hat-trick, with Michael Shenton, Jake Trueman and Oliver Holmes also crossing as Cas eased to a second straight Super 8’s win.
Luke Gale also kicked six goals on his return after four months out and the win has lifted the Tigers to third in the table, two points ahead of Warrington Wolves in fourth and three points behind second-placed Wigan Warriors.
Reacting to the win, Powell was quoted as saying by BBC Sport: “This puts us in a fantastic position. We have got four games left to build momentum. But we are in a great position already which is awesome, based on what has happened to us this year.”
Giving his thoughts on the defeat, Catalans coach Steve McNamara said: “I am glad to get that out of the way. It’s chaotic at the best of times (in Perpignan) but now it has gone to a different level. It’s been utter chaos.
“When your chairman is receiving calls from the chairman of Barcelona and the president of Catalonia, then you know what a huge thing it has been. It’s great to have been involved in, but it’s not conducive to getting ready to play a tough game of Super League away at Castleford.”
