Price Pleased With Burrell Debut

Warrington Wolves coach Steve Price expects Luther Burrell to keep improving following his debut against London Broncos on Saturday.

The 31-year-old centre came on as a substitute as the Wolves claimed a 36-6 win at the Trailfinders Sports Ground to close the gap on Super League leaders St Helens back down to eight points.

Burrell was making his first appearance since leaving Northampton Saints and swapping codes from rugby union to league at the end of the 2018-19 Premiership season.

Price was pleased by the efforts of the former England international, although he knows he still has work to do as he gets to grips with changing codes. “He (Luther) did what he had to do,” Price told the Warrington website.

“It’s work in progress. It’s part of his growth and development. He’s on a new journey now and his pathway started today. It’s a tick in the right direction. It’s all about small steps for him.”

Burrell will certainly be hoping to secure a regular place in Warrington’s starting XIII over the coming weeks and Price admits the former Sale Sharks star has already proven that he is going to be an integral member of the squad going forward.

“He’ll have learnt a lot from that today,” Price added. “He is highly detailed around training and very motivating in and around the team.”
