Proteas Edge Opening Day In Johannesburg

South Africa Cricket team (Proteas) enjoyed the better of day one of the third Test with Pakistan despite suffering a batting collapse.

The Proteas, who have already wrapped up the three-match series after winning the opening two Tests, once again looked in a commanding position as they moved onto 229-3, with opener Aiden Markram top scoring with an impressive knock of 90.

Theunis de Bruyn (49) and debutant Zubayr Hamza (41) also put on a fourth-wicket stand of 75, but, when de Bruyn was trapped lbw off the bowling of Mohammad Abbas, a batting collapse was sparked with South Africa losing their final seven wickets for just 33 runs, as they were all out for 262.

However, in response, Pakistan have struggled, as they closed day one on 17-2, with Shan Masood (2) and Azhar Ali (0) being dismissed in consecutive balls.

Imam ul-Haq (10no) and Mohammad Abbas (0no) will resume day two at the crease, with Pakistan looking to avoid a confidence draining whitewash in the series, with the two teams also set to meet in five One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20s over the coming weeks.
